2. Library and musical fit

Musicbed organizes discovery around artists and curated collections; Artlist offers a stock music catalog alongside other production assets. Musicbed discovery tools, Artlist plan features.

Take one real edit to each library. Search for the same mood, then listen beneath dialogue and across the transition into your final scene. A track that sounds impressive alone may compete with a voiceover. For a series, look for enough suitable material to keep future episodes consistent without repeating the same cue.

3. Client work and brand size

Musicbed's current Business selector describes coverage for clients with up to 250 employees; Enterprise handles larger clients and broader requirements. Confirm the client brand's size rather than using your own production company's headcount. Musicbed pricing, subscription eligibility.

Artlist's Social option excludes client work; individual professional jobs require Pro or the appropriate Business arrangement. Companies and creative agencies should select Business coverage. Artlist plans.

A freelancer editing for a national retailer should settle the retailer's coverage before presenting music for approval. Otherwise, the client can approve a track whose affordable subscription tier does not fit the delivery.

4. Distribution beyond social media

Musicbed routes broadcast, cinema, festivals and OTT requirements toward its extended licensing options. Artlist distinguishes a filmmaker licensing a project from a broadcaster licensing its operations. Musicbed pricing, Artlist license.

Write the distribution schedule into your brief: online launch, paid campaign, festival submission and possible later sale. Quote the whole schedule. Licensing only the initial web upload can leave the producer with another clearance task after a distributor expresses interest.

5. Search, shortlists and approvals

Artlist lists Similar Songs and Artboards; Musicbed provides playlists, an expandable player and a song-search service. Artlist features, Musicbed search, Musicbed song-search service.

For client approvals, keep two viable alternatives beside the preferred song. Ask the client to approve the emotional direction and the licensing budget together. A shortlist with track links, intended timing and rights notes gives the producer something useful to approve. A long playlist without those details moves the search work onto the client.

6. Stems, alternate versions and the edit

Artlist includes available stems in its professional music plans. Availability depends on the track. Artlist stems and plans.

For either library, inspect the chosen song's delivery options before locking the edit. You may need an instrumental, a clean ending or a reduced arrangement beneath speech. Ask about those deliverables for a Musicbed selection instead of assuming that a song's availability guarantees a particular stem package. If the client needs six cutdowns, test the shortest version first: a strong three-minute track can prove awkward in a ten-second closing card.

7. Sound effects and wider production assets

Musicbed's current plan selector includes sound effects. Artlist separates Music Pro from Music & SFX Pro; footage and templates require the relevant wider plan. Musicbed plans, Artlist pricing.

Count what you expect to use. If your existing effects library covers transitions and room tone, a music-only subscription may fit. If you build sound design for each project, include effects in the comparison. Avoid adding footage or AI spending to the music budget unless those tools will replace another purchase.

8. YouTube claims and monetization

Musicbed offers subscribers SyncID for eligible subscription music. Its single-song purchase route can require a separate monetization arrangement. Musicbed SyncID guidance, single-song monetization guidance.

That distinction matters for a filmmaker buying one song for a monetized channel. Include monetization in the quote rather than treating a single-song license as interchangeable with a subscription. With Artlist, follow the Clearlist and licensing requirements for the publishing destination. Artlist license.

9. Cancellation and future projects

Artlist requires creation and publication within the active term for ongoing coverage, subject to its terms. Musicbed requires subscribers to log each use; downloading a song does not create a license for an unlogged future project. Artlist license, Musicbed subscription terms.

Keep a project record with the track, license and publication date. Before ending either subscription, review unfinished edits and scheduled releases. Budget for a later season or a new client revision as a separate production decision.

10. Support and purchasing flexibility

Musicbed provides a human song-search route alongside per-project licensing. Artlist publishes named stock-plan prices and offers a Premiere Pro extension. Musicbed pricing and services, Artlist plan features.

Human help can matter on a brief with unusual creative or distribution requirements. A repeatable subscription workflow may matter more when you produce several similar videos each week. Evaluate support on the question you need answered, such as clearing a named client or finding a specific arrangement, and compare the answer against the production brief.
