Artlist vs Bensound

Choose Bensound if you need an eligible free track or want to buy a paid license for one soundtrack. Choose Artlist if you need recurring catalog access, stems and a professional stock license for your production work. For freelancers, compare Artlist Pro with Bensound's correct client-license route rather than its cheapest personal option.

The strongest reason to choose Bensound is its buying flexibility. Artlist's stock plans make more sense when you need a sequence of tracks across ongoing projects.

1. Subscription prices and one-off buying

Artlist's published stock prices exclude VAT. The annual estimates below equal twelve times the rounded monthly equivalent; checkout may use a different rounded total.

All Access requires one annual payment; pay-per-track is a one-time asset license within the chosen scope. Compare regional checkout totals in the same currency and use the tier that covers the project.

2. Free publishing and attribution

Bensound's Free License applies to selected Free Music tracks. For online video, viewers must be able to access the video free of charge, and you must supply the exact attribution and unique code. That code covers one video. Separate rules apply to its permitted educational film and theatrical uses.

Artlist's free trial permits personal preview work with watermarked assets. The Artlist license does not turn a trial download into permission to publish a finished video. Bensound therefore offers the clearer route here for a qualifying public video with no music-license budget.

3. Music selection for your edit

Try both catalogs with the kind of production you make. A product demonstration may need a repeatable pulse without a vocal hook. A documentary scene may need tension that rises over a minute without distracting from an interview.

Make a shortlist that works beneath the actual dialogue. Compare the arrangement and available edit options, not the first ten seconds of a preview. A catalog's track count gives little guidance on whether you can find the cue your current scene needs.

4. Stems and permitted music changes

Artlist's audio plans include access to music and available stems. Separate instrument parts can help you reduce a busy layer beneath narration while keeping the cue's rhythm.

Bensound permits ordinary project edits such as cutting, fading and looping. Its terms restrict remixes and transformations that change the asset's fundamental character. If you want to reshape an arrangement, assess the available source material and permissions before committing the cut to a client.

5. Sound effects and visual assets

Artlist Music Pro excludes sound effects. Choose Music & SFX Pro if effects form part of the audio brief. Footage, templates and broader AI tools come through their respective plans or bundles; the presence of these products on the same website does not make them part of Music Pro.

Bensound's All Access plans cover its music and SFX library. For a single project with one cue and two effects, price those selected purchases against annual access. For a weekly show, include the number of new assets you expect to license over the whole year.

6. Channel monetization and clearing

Artlist Social covers one channel on each supported platform within its personal-use scope. Pro permits three full Clearlisted channels per platform plus individual YouTube-video clearing. The Clearlist guide explains the workflow.

Bensound's Individual license clears one YouTube channel, Professional up to five, and Business an unlimited number subject to reasonable use. The channel count is a clearing allowance; the applicable agreement still decides which projects and customers you may serve.

7. Client ownership and professional coverage

Artlist Pro supports finished client projects within its license, while companies and creative agencies must check Business eligibility. Sharing music files or account access with the customer is a separate issue from delivering a finished video.

Bensound's client FAQ offers two routes: purchase a single license naming the customer as holder, or use Business coverage for multiple-client work. Choose based on how your studio operates. A one-off soundtrack for one customer and an editor supplying videos to twenty customers need different administration.

8. Advertising, broadcast and public performance

Artlist Pro's stock coverage includes ads and broadcast within its stated terms. Bensound Professional adds online advertisements; broader distribution such as TV, VOD or cinema needs a custom agreement under its current legal terms.

Bensound also excludes public-performance rights from its standard license grant. A video played at an event can involve permissions beyond online synchronization. Include screenings, paid placements and planned distribution in the brief before choosing a music license; a customer expanding the campaign can change the required rights.

9. Renewal and post-cancellation use

Artlist requires projects to be created and published during the subscription. Continuing coverage for qualifying published projects remains subject to its legal terms and rights-enforcement provisions; avoid interpreting it as a promise that no rights issue can arise.

Bensound's All Access certificates apply to projects published during the active year. Its terms require cancellation at least 14 calendar days before renewal. Its single-track licenses have a perpetual grant within their scope, which differs from retaining an unused annual-subscription download for a future project.

10. Choosing by production volume

Choose Bensound if one eligible free cue solves the brief, attribution fits the publishing format, or you prefer a specific paid track over catalog access. Select the right license holder and scope before checkout.

Choose Artlist if you need a stream of music choices, want available stems and prefer its Pro licensing for the media you produce. Budget for the SFX-inclusive plan if you also need effects.

FAQs

Is Bensound free for YouTube?

Selected Free Music tracks can qualify when you follow the attribution and access conditions. Each video needs its own supplied attribution code.

Does Artlist offer a one-track purchase instead of Pro?

The stock audio plans compared here are subscriptions. Bensound provides the explicit pay-per-track option if that buying model is your priority.

Can I use Bensound Individual for online ads?

Its legal agreement places online ads in Professional coverage. Use the current agreement rather than abbreviated FAQ wording when choosing a license.

Does downloading before cancellation cover a later upload?

Artlist and Bensound's subscription terms both impose active-term project-publication requirements. Possession of the file alone does not establish later publishing rights.
