Artlist vs Uppbeat

Choose Uppbeat if you want a free starting point for your own channel or a paid subscription that bundles music with visual assets. Choose Artlist Pro if you need its music catalog under a professional license that includes the distribution your project requires. For broadcast work, Artlist's Pro stock license deserves a closer look; Uppbeat's standard licenses exclude broadcast.

Both companies sell several products. Comparing Artlist Music Pro with Uppbeat Creator misses a sound-effects difference and a client-rights difference. Start with the job, then compare the plans that can license it.

1. Free access and publishing rights

Uppbeat starts free accounts with three downloads. Its Basic License requires the supplied credit for free music and covers solo creators publishing their own work. You cannot use that tier for client publishing or paid advertising.

Artlist's license limits free trial assets to personal preview use. A watermarked test download helps you judge a cue against a cut; it does not provide public publishing permission. Choose a qualifying paid plan before releasing a finished project.

2. Pricing and annual commitments

Artlist publishes the following USD stock prices on its production blog, excluding VAT. Annual costs here are estimates calculated from the rounded monthly equivalent; checkout totals may differ. Music Pro excludes SFX.

Artlist plan Monthly equivalent on annual billing Approximate annual cost Month-to-month option
Music & SFX Social $9.99 $119.88 $14.99
Music Pro $16.58 $198.96 Annual only
Music & SFX Pro $24.92 $299.04 Annual only

Uppbeat displayed these EUR prices during research. Do not compare them as if euros and dollars were the same currency.

Uppbeat plan Monthly equivalent on annual billing Approximate annual cost Month-to-month option
Essentials €6.99 €83.88 €8.99
Creator €8.99 €107.88 €12.99
Pro €15.99 €191.88 €27.99
Business €29.99, excluding tax €359.88, excluding tax Annual billing shown

3. Music fit and discovery

Artlist provides music and stems through its stock audio plans. Uppbeat provides music discovery, curated browsing and a playlist generator.

Try a practical search: find music for a dialogue-heavy interview, a fast product montage and a quiet closing scene. Assess how much of each candidate survives after you lower it beneath speech. A track that sounds impressive on its own can make dialogue harder to follow.

4. SFX, footage and asset bundles

Artlist Music Pro contains music, while Music & SFX Pro adds effects. Artlist sells footage and templates through separate stock options and broader Max bundles. The presence of an asset on Artlist's website does not mean your music subscription includes it.

Uppbeat Creator includes visual assets, including footage up to 1080p; Pro and Business increase footage access to 4K. If you need one overhead city shot each month as well as music, compare this bundle against Artlist's relevant footage-inclusive offering. If you already shoot your own footage, price the audio plan you will use.

5. Personal channels and monetization

Artlist Social covers one channel per listed social platform and a personal podcast within its license. Uppbeat Essentials and Creator use the Basic License for individuals publishing their own content. Their paid YouTube safelist limits differ: one channel on Essentials and three on Creator.

A larger safelist allowance does not create permission for customer work. Distinguish the person who operates the channel from the person who pays you to edit. If a client owns the destination account, compare the professional licenses.

6. Freelance work and team accounts

Artlist Pro permits client projects within its stock license. Companies and creative agencies need to check Business coverage. It does not let you hand over standalone music files or share your account as an asset pool. Check Team and Business rules for your organization.

Uppbeat's Solo Professional License permits a client to distribute material you produce. It excludes organizations with more than one member, which need Business coverage. A solo editor who hires a colleague should recheck eligibility rather than assuming the old subscription still fits the expanded business.

7. Paid advertising and broadcast

Artlist Pro includes paid advertising and broadcast within its stated terms. Uppbeat Pro and Business cover specified commercial digital distribution and paid ads; their standard licenses exclude broadcast TV, VOD platforms, radio and cinema. Use Uppbeat's custom licensing route for those outlets.

For a campaign with social and television versions, include both outlets in the music brief. Buying an online-only license and extending it near delivery can change the project budget. The finished video may look identical across outlets while requiring different permissions.

8. Editing features and AI products

Artlist's audio-plan guide lists tools such as stems, Similar Songs and its Premiere Pro extension. Its AI credit products and Max bundles need a separate inclusions check; a stock music plan does not automatically include a full generative-production subscription.

Uppbeat lists Sync Preview and duration customization. Assess whether you need separate instrument parts, a quick preview against footage or visual stock. Those are different tasks. Compare a feature against the task it solves before paying for it.

9. Downloads and cancellation

Artlist applies daily fair-use limits, including 40 songs and 100 SFX. Its license requires projects to be created and published during an active subscription for continuing coverage in that media.

Uppbeat's user agreement requires subscription assets to be integrated during the paid term and prohibits stockpiling. Its license preserves qualifying material first distributed while active. Neither arrangement supports downloading hundreds of tracks and using them in future productions after cancellation.

10. Choosing for a real project

Choose Uppbeat if you publish your own channel on a small budget, want to begin with credited free tracks, or need the visual stock included in its paid bundles. Upgrade based on who will publish the finished work.

Choose Artlist if its catalog fits your cuts and the Pro license covers the combination of client and broadcast distribution you need. Budget for Music & SFX Pro if your production also requires effects.

FAQs

Is Uppbeat cheaper than Artlist?

Its entry plans have a lower displayed starting price in the currencies checked, but compare local currency totals and the rights you need. Client work changes the relevant tier.

Does Artlist Music Pro include sound effects?

No. Choose Music & SFX Pro if you need effects as part of the professional stock audio subscription.

Can I use Uppbeat Creator for a client's channel?

The Basic License excludes client work. Solo professionals need Pro, while teams and organizations need Business.

Do I need to keep paying for published videos?

Qualifying projects can retain coverage after cancellation under each provider's terms. New projects and later publication require a separate check; a download date alone is insufficient.
